Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is a system of teaching named after BKS Iyengar. It is methodical and precise with an emphasis on correct alignment. It is characterized by the use of equipment to support and aid students in the postures (asana), allowing them to progress safely at their own pace.
Students work through a variety of different asanas, slowly gaining confidence and understanding of their own bodies and the interconnectedness of mind and body. Breathing techniques (pranayama) are also practiced and refined.
Classes can range from being flowing and dynamic to slower, more held asana work, allowing the posture to be improved and understood through the body, mind and breath.
Iyengar yoga is accessible to everyone, from all walks of life. If you are a beginner you may want to start by attending a Beginners Course which will take you through the basics, allowing you to attend general classes with confidence and ability.
If you have any serious medical conditions or specific health problems, please inform me before attending class.
